Background
Podcasting has increased immensely with content distributors like Spotify, Apple, and Google logging millions of listeners every year. Blubrry wants to establish itself as a trusting and impactful podcast hosting company for podcasters and media partners. They sponsor and attend several conferences each year. They wanted to refresh their exhibition booth and handouts to engage with this new generation of content creators.
Goal
Enhance Blubrry’s branding with new handouts, booth design, and swag to intrigue attendees at broadcasting conferences.
Exploration
I was given Blubrry’s old handouts and discussed with the marketing team new ways we could improve the current layout of their table. Some insights I found while benchmarking:
Everything on the table was flat. Decreasing the number of handouts and increasing the swag to create different heights and shapes would bring more dimensionality to the table.
Many of the printed handouts were repeating the same information in different sizes. Newer products weren’t represented on the table at all.
The backdrop’s look was outdated (last updated around 2014). Many attendees would walk up asking “So, what do you do exactly?”
The goal was clear: update and upgrade. I worked closely with the marketing and events teams to transfer Blubrry’s new look, tone, and feel to its exhibition design and handouts.
Experimentation
We began by marking up the old handouts and updating their messages with fresh imagery. We created handouts for new products while I explored new banners and backdrops. I designed new swag items to giveaway at conferences including t-shirts, coffee mugs, and buttons.
Execution
Most of the conferences were canceled in 2020, which gave us plenty of time to update all our handouts and banners. During this time several people started their own podcasts as a quarantine activity. This gave us the opportunity to reach a whole new audience of creators and help them grow their shows once the conferences returned in 2021. I was able to attend myself and get feedback from the events team:
Our new array of swag attracted attendees to our booth and started conversations with new podcasters.
We saw an increase in the usage of promo codes offered at events.
Evaluation
The marketing team was thrilled with the positive feedback we received from events. Engaging with a new podcaster and the popularity of our swag gave Blubrry a reintroduction into the podcasting community. This was my first time creating an exhibition design but my skills in branding extension integrated with this project. Meeting and discussing a new podcaster gave me insights that I was able to bring to Blubrry to elevate their messaging even further.
